Elizabeth Kidd

Elizabeth “Betty” Lukens Kidd, 97, of Morgantown, died peacefully at home on Thursday, March 3, 2022. Betty was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Allentown, Pa., to Anna Abbott Rowdon and Edward Oberholtzer Lukens.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. “Joe” Kidd Jr., both parents and her brother, Edward Oberholtzer Lukens Jr.

She is survived by her children: Larry Kidd and spouse LaDawn, of Boise, Idaho, Nancy Pope and spouse Bob, of Morgantown, Kevan Kidd, of Morgantown, and Miriam Brock and spouse Tom, of Morgantown; granddaughter, Annika Brock, of Morgantown; and grandson, Austin Kidd of Boise, Idaho.

Betty graduated from William Allen High School in Allentown, Pa. in 1942. She earned a teaching degree from Kutztown State University in 1946 and did some graduate work through Lehigh University and Moravian College. She taught in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Maine until 1950, when she and Joe were married. She particularly enjoyed teaching in Farmington, Maine, where she made many good friends.
Betty was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she participated in Bible Study, helped with the church library and created school kits for children overseas. She also enjoyed attending LCW (Lutheran Church Women) Conferences on several occasions.

Betty was a homemaker most of her life, but she enjoyed sewing (which she did impeccably), playing the piano, listening to Irish music and Lawrence Welk, doing word search puzzles and reading. She was a very good artist on the rare occasions she would draw. Betty was also proud of her Pennsylvania Dutch (German) heritage, being a descendent of one of the first German families to settle in Germantown, Pa. in 1683, each family given an acre by William Penn.

The family would like to thank the hospice nurses, especially Kelli and Paige, for their care and comfort.
A private family graveside service will take place at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends and family will be received at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 309 Baldwin St., Morgantown, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the public memorial service at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, with Pastor Tony Setley officiating.

Hastings Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
