
Loretta “Jean” Courtney, 73, of Fairmont passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, at Pierpont Center, Fairmont. Jean was born March 26, 1948, in Petersburg, a daughter of the late Bruce E. Hyre and Twila Rinehart Hyre.
Jean was a certified nursing assistant and also a homemaker. Jean was a 1967 graduate of Petersburg High School, where she was president of her class. She enjoyed flea markets, gardening and crafts but her greatest love was her grandchildren and family.
Jean is survived by one daughter, Lisa (Chris) Kukla, of Durham, N.C.; two sons, Nate (Carla) Courtney, of Morgantown, and Sean Courtney, of Mineral Wells; one sister, Janie (Greg) Fleming, of Oak Island, N.C., and their sons Jason and Justin and family; one brother, Bruce “Icky” Hyre Jr. (Mary Cay) and family, of Petersburg; grandchildren, Levi, Abbie, Hayden, Carter and Simon; aunt, Loretta Hyre Hoffman and family, of Jacksonville, N.C.; and lifelong friend, Ron Klink, of Greensboro, Pa.
Jean was preceded in death by one son, Jeremy Courtney, and niece Lauren Hyre Rodgers.
The family requests that donations be made in Jean’s name to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
