A much-loved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Eileen Anna Air Mahle, 78, of Morgantown, passed away on Monday, Feb. 21, 2022, at her home.
Eileen was born on Dec. 21, 1943, in Dundee, Scotland, the daughter of the late Horace and Henrietta
Torbet.
She enjoyed sports and fitness. She played tennis, was a member of the Scottish Field Hockey Team and was also a figure skater. Eileen was a pioneer in starting a business incorporating aerobics and dance in Connecticut, where she was an instructor and had her own studio. She loved to dance and it gave her great personal fulfillment to help others stay healthy while doing something they enjoyed.
She was an avid reader throughout her life and loved collecting antique furniture. She also enjoyed swimming and was known to be the first one out doing laps at the pool every morning — even during cool weather.
Eileen worked many years at the Salem Children’s home in Maryland, where she provided love and guidance to many at-risk youths. She was deeply invested in the children there and went on to foster two of the girls.
Eileen is survived by her three sons, Clint, Scott and Lee, and four grandchildren, Cameron, Kendall, Siena and Kalli — all of whom she loved with all her heart.
In addition to her parents, Eileen is preceded in death by her beloved late husband, Walley. She adored him and the family they formed together.
Eileen had a full life — and will be especially remembered by her huge heart and love for others as well as her fiery independent spirit.
Friends and family will be received for a memorial visitation at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at JDRF.org.
