Robert “Bob” Eugene Williams of Tunnelton, passed away on Feb. 12, 2022, at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown.
He was born to the late Charles “King” Williams and Edith Bailey Williams on April 13, 1929.
Bob taught at Tunnelton High School, where he coached basketball from 1957 until the school’s closure in 1977. He taught and coached basketball at Central Preston High School from 1978-1979, when he then became the director of buildings and grounds for the Preston County School System until his retirement. Upon his retirement in July 1989, he was hired by Preston County Schools to oversee the construction of the new Preston High School. As a coach and mentor and as a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Bob touched many lives in his nearly 93 years in this world.
He will be forever missed by his wife, Mary Riley Williams; son, Bryan Williams and his wife Sandy; daughter, Suzanne Williams-McAuliffe and her husband Brian McAuliffe; son-in-law, William “Bill” Adams; his grandchildren: Adrienne Blume, Andrea Williams Raines and her husband David, Jared Adams and his wife Ashley, Matthew Williams and his companion Missy Bond, Whitney Blume Man and her husband Samnang and Michael Adams and his fiancée Clarissa Sanchez; step-grandchildren, Daniel McAuliffe and his wife Tara and Matthew McAuliffe and his wife Katherine; great-grandchildren: Benjamin and Daniel Raines, Peyton and Violet Adams, Xena and Zara Man and soon to be born Jaxson Cade Adams; step-great-grandchildren, Jordan and Kellen McAuliffe; brother, Charles “June” Williams and his wife Jane; nieces, Deane Shaffer and her husband Robert and Melinda Williams Adams and her husband Chuck; nephews, Larry Williams and his wife Doris, Mark Williams and his wife Gloria and Eric Williams; and countless grandnieces and grandnephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Williams Adams; his granddaughter, Joanne Williams; his brothers, Francis “Franny” Williams, Foster “Foss” Williams and Thomas “Tom” Williams; and his nephews, Thomas and Scott Williams.
The family would like to thank the nurses of the step down unit of Mon Health Medical Center for their devoted care: Dr. Blatt and Dr. Choudry, who treated Bob during his hospitalization, and Dr. Alan Hess and Dr. Darnell Saunders, who treated Bob for many years.
At his request, Bob will be cremated and there will be no funeral. A private graveside service and a celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a later date.
