This Sunday it may be difficult to find a bar or restaurant in the U.S. with a television that won’t be tuned to the NBC network as the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals duke it out in Super Bowl LVI.
While many area residents may not be fans of either team, local bars and restaurants are gearing up for a party regardless of who comes out as this season’s champions.
Those still seeking a place to watch the big game will find a variety of offerings in the Morgantown area with many local establishments advertising everything from food and drink specials to vacation giveaways and everything in between.
Morgan Fiffik, General Manager of Draft Restaurant and Bar located at 5008 Mid Atlantic Drive, said they will be screening the game on all of their 11 big screen TV’s surrounding the bar and dining area. Draft is not your typical sports bar and offers an elevated, but casual experience while serving craft beer and original food and cocktails.
Fiffik said Draft will be running a feature menu this Sunday that includes handcrafted flatbread, loaded nachos, and an artisanal burger. In addition they will have some great bar specials including deals on buckets and pitchers, $2 off domestic drafts and shareables, $1 off craft beer drafts and $1 off pitchers.
Draft staff members strive to maintain a super high level of customer service and Super Bowl Sunday will be no different. “We’ve been planning this for a while,” Fiffik said, adding they have added additional staffing and inventory for the event to make sure they are prepared.
If you are looking for a more traditional sports bar experience, Scorers Sports Bar and Restaurant at 201 Holland Avenue in Westover will definitely be having an unforgettable Super Bowl party with specials and vacation giveaways.
Ray Glymph, owner of Scorer’s, said they are going all out for this year’s big game. “We are giving away trips to Vegas and Mexico,” he said. “So it’s big.”
Glymph said tickets will be given out with purchases and a drawing will be held for the big prizes. “We are going to draw somebody at random and we’ll be picking people to go to Mexico and people to go to Las Vegas.”
Glymph also owns 4th and Goal Sports Bar on Walnut Street which has already been booked for a private party that day.
Not all local sports spots are going all out for the game, but still know they will more than likely see a great turnout from area sports fans.
Staff members at Mountain Mama’s Tavern and Sports Bar in Chelsea Square on Van Voorhis Road said they will be running their normal Sunday specials and are taking pre-orders for wings.
Joe Archer, cook and longtime staff member at Mountain Mama’s said while they may not have anything formally organized, they are expecting to see a crowd and will be ready.
Other area bars and restaurants are still facing staff shortages and will be forced to downplay an otherwise profitable day. As one example, management at The Green Turtle Sports Bar and Grille in Granville said they have always been able to celebrate the Super Bowl in the past, but current staff shortages this year leave them unable to do so in the way they normally would this Sunday.
“Last year was insanely busy and we were, because of everything that was going on, horrendously understaffed,” said Archer at Mountain Mama’s. “This year we are actually fully staffed, so that will be nice.”
Regardless of where you and your game watching crew decide to take a gameday timeout, you can safely place a prop bet on Morgantown bars delivering a good time on Super Bowl Sunday.
