A look at bills introduced Monday, Jan. 31

MORGANTOWN – Here is a look at some of the bills introduced on Monday, Jan. 31. Local sponsors and cosponsors, if any, are noted.

SB 511, to prohibit insurers from denying prescription drugs for the mitigation of opioid withdrawal symptoms.

SB 513, to create the Fire Service Recruitment and Retention Fund, for providing grants to volunteer and part-volunteer fire companies and departments and their members for the purpose of recruiting and retaining volunteer and part-volunteer firefighters. Sen. Dave Sypolt, R-Preston, Randy Smith, R-Tucker, co-sponsors.

SB 514, to provide immunity from civil or criminal prosecution against persons using force, including deadly force, in defense of self, real and personal property. Smith, sponsor.

HB 4425, to establish a college of law at Marshall University.

HB 4435, to allow owners of refueling stations to designate refueling locations to be used only for refueling a vehicle. Delegate Evan Hansen, D-Monongalia, sponsor.

HB 4435, to prohibit a person under the age of 18 from entering into a marriage.

HB 4440, To ban sanctuary cities in the state, to require all local entities of this state to enforce immigration laws.

HB 4446, to create the Student Rescue Act; provides for students to make up time lost due to a natural disaster or pandemic lasting longer than 21 days and if there is enough interest from parents/students.

HB 4459, to allow medical health insurance policies to establish alternative premiums for unvaccinated insured persons.

HB 4467, to provide additional classroom social/emotional and academic support for first and second grade pupils by requiring an early childhood classroom assistant teacher in first and second grade classrooms that have more than 12 pupils.
