NEW MARTINSVILLE — Jenna Barnett led all scorers with 18 points and 12 different Warriors scored as they beat Magnolia on Saturday, 79-18 to tip-off the Magnolia Rotary Shootout.
Head Coach Mike Baldy’s team was nothing short of dominant against the Lady Eagles. After one quarter, TCHS led by a score of 23-4. This included the first 12 points of the game in which four different Warriors scored points. Abigail Fisher came off the bench for Trinity to score 8 points on a perfect 4 for 4 from the field to begin the game.
“I thought our effort was fantastic,” Baldy praised his team. “By far the best game we’ve played all season.”
The second quarter saw much of the same as the first. TCHS continued to share the ball and run efficient offense. Applying the press on the defensive side helped the Warriors push the game to the pace they wanted and allowed for extra possessions throughout the game.
“We really came out to get them on defense which turned into offensive baskets,” he said. “And then good offense led to defense, just a really great spiral for four quarters for us.”
The third quarter would prove that point to be true as Magnolia wouldn’t register a single point with their opponents scoring 17. In fact, all of the points for the Lady Eagles had come from one player, Shaela Holliday.
The effort from Baldy’s team is something he hopes can be contagious and that the energy his team shows on and off the court can remain day-to-day.
“Some of the girls stayed the night here, we were here real early for a shootaround,” he said. “We made sure we were focused in the locker room today, might not always be that way. The girls were also excited for the Rotary Challenge and being apart of a great atmosphere.”
