Nona Boose White, 80, of Eden, N.C., passed away peacefully Jan. 19, 2022, at her home.
Family and friends are welcome to call at Fair’s Funeral Home, 432 Boone Road, Eden, N.C., from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday Jan. 23. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 3 p.m. with Pastor Rick Smith officiating. COVID pandemic restrictions will apply with face masks and social distancing required. A private family internment at Arlington National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Born on April 4, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Harvey E. and Ruth (McBride) Boose. Nona graduated from Forsyth High School and attended Guilford College, where she graduated with a bachelor’s in psychology. Guilford College is also where she met the love of her life, Ernest Kennedy White Jr., on a blind date. They were married on Jan. 18, 1964 and started their exciting life together that would take them across the United States, around the world and eventually to retirement in Morgantown. She later moved back to North Carolina to be close to her family. Nona was always up for an adventure, as she loved traveling and exploring new places. She freely shared and passed on the passion of travel to her family. She lived a full and vibrant life and touched so many with her generosity, kindness and love. She was truly a beautiful person, inside and out — an amazing wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend. She was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles and word finds. She also had the sweetest sweet tooth and never passed up an opportunity to indulge. Yet, there was nothing she enjoyed more than spending time with her family and grandchildren, who will miss her tremendously.
She is survived by her daughters, Kaye (John) Parker and Jennifer (David) Fencl; her daughter-in-law, Melissa (White); and her six grandchildren, Savannah Marie and John Thomas Parker, Elizabeth and Mercedes Zinn and Holden and Kennedy White. She was preceded in death by her parents, her only sibling — her brother, Harvey E. Boose Jr.; her husband, Lt. Col. Ernest Kennedy White Jr.; and her only son, Sgt. William “Bill” White. The family would like to thank her caregivers that blessed us by taking such good care of our mama throughout her years: Pam Robertson, Ellen Crowder, Jerry Williams, Alecia Ferguson, Valerie Willis, Chris Clark and Natasha Blankenship.
A special thank you to Rockingham Hospice for the kindness, compassion and excellent care they provided for Nona. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Sgt. William White Memorial Scholarship. Checks can be made to the Greensboro Police Foundation and remitted to Greensboro Police Foundation, 320 Federal Place, Greensboro NC 27401. Be sure to note the William White Scholarship Fund in the memo. Donations can also be made online at greensboropolicefounda
