Jerry Allen Filler, 65, of Star City, passed away on Jan. 16, 2022, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Jerry was born in Clarksburg on Sept. 6, 1956, a son of the late James I. and Dorothy J. Livingston Filler.
Jerry was a skilled painter by trade. Those of us who knew Jerry well could see the great pride and accomplishment he felt in his workmanship. A Christian by faith, Jerry attended Fellowship Bible Church in Bridgeport and Trinity Assembly of God in Fairmont. Jerry’s faith in God led him to traveling abroad on mission trips.
He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish and kayak. His favorite pastime was walking and visiting Ohiopyle State Park and Coopers Rock State Forest with his best friend, Janet G. Goodwin. He loved spending time and enjoyed long road trips with her. Another pastime that Jerry enjoyed was flea marketing. He loved a good deal.
He is survived by his best friend and significant other of 17 years, Janet G Goodwin; Janet’s daughter, Mindy S. Wright; a brother, Charles “Chuck” Nicholson; nephews, Joseph Hollen, Robbie Hollen, Shawn Carder, James Paul Filler, Eric Filler and their families; two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Matthew and Patricia Haught; Mitchell Haught; and two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Valinda and Bob Loy and Vanessa Roque and their families.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Valecia Lynn Haught Filler, of over 20 years. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Filler; one sister, Linda Lou Filler; and stepfather, Bud.
We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of MICU at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion that they provided Jerry.
In keeping with Jerry’s wishes, he will be cremated. Due to COVID, there will be no visitation or services. Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home is honored to be handling all arrangements.
