Flames engulfed a single story residence early Tuesday afternoon as firefighters from several departments worked to battle the blaze.
Firefighters from Cool Springs, Masontown, Brookhaven and Reedsville volunteer fire departments responded to the call at 47 McKinney Cave Road near the Word of Life Tabernacle church on Summers School Road along with Monongalia County EMS.
Judy Baker, who resided in the home, could do nothing but watch with tear-filled eyes as fire and smoke poured out of the windows and roof, consuming the entire house. At one point, loud pops were heard as ammunition inside the house succumbed to the heat.
Baker said she was playing with her dog when he started barking. That’s when she noticed the fire. She was able to get out of the house before sustaining injury but she unfortunately did not believe the dog was able to make it out in time.
The resident was unsure how the fire began, but she believes it may have been caused by a pellet stove she had been using in the home.
Fire officials could not be reached by press time to see if the cause of the fire had been determined.
