Ronald Lee Hungate, 78, of Morgantown, passed away on Jan. 9, 2022. He was born in Morgantown, on Jan. 2, 1944, son of the late Felton Lee and Mary (Horun) Hungate.
Ronald was a 1961 graduate of Albert Gallatin High and a 1966 graduate of Waynesburg College with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He graduated in 1972 with a master’s in public administration from West Virginia University.
Ronald worked at West Virginia University for 49 years, from 1966-76 as assistant controller, from 1976-2006 as assistant dean and director of agriculture and forestry and from 2006-15 as a part-time consultant. Ronald was a founder and served as the treasurer of the WVU credit union.
His hobbies included solving crossword puzzles, fishing and gardening. Ronald coached youth basketball at Cheat Lake Elementary for over 20 years. Most of all, Ronald enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren, Mackenzie, Christopher and Keeley.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol Galloway Hungate; son, Jeffrey Hungate (Shaz Malik), of Baltimore; son, Mark Hungate (wife Kristal, Mackenzie, and Christopher), of Kernersville, N.C.; and daughter, Anissa Drabish (husband Scott and Keeley), of Morgantown. He is also survived by his sister, Gloria Warman, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in his death by his brothers, Richard Felton Hungate and Robert Norman Malcom, and brother-in-law, Howard Warman.
In keeping with the wishes of Ronald, there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Canyon Food Pantry, c/o Mary Gribko 18 Whipkey Lane, Morgantown, WV 26508.
The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice for their kindness and support for helping Ronald with the challenge of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).
