William Perry “Buddy” Baker Jr., 81, of Morgantown, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, at his home. He was born on Feb. 29, 1940, son of the late Dr. William Perry and Irene (Kersey) Baker Sr. in Richmond, Va.
After graduating ROTC from West Virginia University, he served as an infantry officer at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He worked as a certified pharmaceutical representative for 35 years and was recognized as a top salesman in his region. Buddy was known as an avid golfer, and he was a longtime member of the Pines Country Club. He loved WVU football and basketball and he was a dedicated MHS supporter. After retirement, he volunteered at Meals on Wheels, worked as a mentor for the WVU Athletics Department and served on the board at the Pines Country Club.
Buddy was survived by two children and their spouses, Dr. William “Bill” Baker and his wife Kelly Gossard Baker, and Dr. Melanie Baker Rogers and her husband, Marc Rogers; grandchildren, Owen, Reilly, Elliott, Matthew and Mikala; sister, Jenny Lou Buttermore; and her husband, John.
In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Lenora “Mickey” Baker.
Due to COVID-19 and its variants, the family requests all guests to maintain social distancing and wear a mask.

Friends and family will be received for the funeral service at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, with Pastor Rich Schimansky officiating. Interment will take place at East Oak Grove Cemetery at a later time.
