An accident Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 79 caused traffic to back up for miles after both southbound lanes had to be closed.
Monongalia County Chief Deputy Mark Ralston said the sheriff’s department responded to the accident just after noon Tuesday at the southbound 150 mile marker. Deputies were able to clear the scene around 2:30 p.m.
Ralston said the accident was still under investigation, but involved two tractor-trailers and a Volkswagen sedan.
A female had to be extricated from the Volkswagen. Ralston said the woman’s injuries were non-life threatening.
Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the cause of the accident.
