Hobert K. “Bud” Benson

Hobert K. “Bud” Benson, 79, of Martinsburg, formerly of Morgantown, passed away Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, at the Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg.    

Born Feb. 26, 1942, in Bruceton Mills, he was the son of the late Hobert M. and Irene Benson.

     Bud was a 1960 graduate of Bruceton High School. He was a barber for a short time in the 1960s before making his career as a pipefitter with U.A. Local 152 Plumbers and Pipefitters in Morgantown, where he was recently honored as a 55-year service member. 

     He was previously a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Cheat Lake, and then attended St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Martinsburg where, in recent years, he volunteered with the annual pie-making project.  An avid hunter and outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time at his farm in Preston County, he was also a NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching football.

    Bud is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara L. Benson; two daughters and their husbands:  Tara L. and P. Douglas Gregory of Martinsburg and Marsha and Sean Macneal of Queenstown, Md.; two granddaughters, Sophie and Chloe Gregory of Martinsburg; one sister, Kay Furman, of Cheat Lake; two brothers-in-law, Donald Wilburn and wife, Sandy, and Glenn Benson, all of Cheat Lake; numerous nephews; and two nieces.

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Joann Benson and Violet Jane Groves.

     Family and friends may call at the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, Tuesday, Jan. 4, from 4-7 p.m., and Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service in the funeral home with Pastor Greg Moran officiating.  Burial will follow in the Bruceton Cemetery, Bruceton Mills.

     Due to the increase in the COVID infection, those attending the services are requested to wear masks and to practice social distancing.
