Marvin Gemas

Marvin “Dube” Marcus Gemas Sr., 77, of Morgantown, passed away Friday, Dec. 10, 2021, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. Dube, as his friends would call him, was the son of Wade Hampton Gemas and Delcie Mae Stevens Gemas who preceded him death.

Dube leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Lana Ferrell Gemas, and his son, Marvin “Mark” Gemas Jr. and wife, Alyssa Chase and stepdaughter, Madilyn “Jo” Dalton. Marvin, sometimes a man of few words, loved Alyssa and Jo. They stole his heart when they became part of our family. He is also survived by his brother, Richard and wife Rosemary Gemas; sisters-in-law, Linda Edgell and Laura Malone; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Ferrell and wife Gail; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dube was a hardworking man who lived life to the fullest. He was a lifelong resident and member of the Triune Halleck Volunteer Fire Department and believed in helping friends and family. Marvin “Dubey” loved bluegrass music and weekends riding his side-by-side through the holler to the “Taj Mahal.”

He wore many hats before and after his retirement, including working at a sawmill, driving a truck with a moving company and even milking the cows at the WVU dairy farm. His most recent and proudest accomplishment was being a co-owner and partner of RH&M Machine Company which he and his brother-in-law formed in 1971 and incorporated in 1974.

In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Gemas Reppert and husband Robert Reppert; brother, Robert Gemas and wife Theresa Berkshire Gemas; and an infant brother, who passed at birth.

Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 15, with Pastor Randy Vincent officiating. Interment will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Triune Halleck Volunteer Fire Department, 1621 Halleck Road, Morgantown, WV 26508.
