Leonard French Ammons, 73, of Fairview, passed away on Dec. 8, 2021. He was born March 25, 1948, in Waynesburg, Pa., to the late Ira Stanley and Sylvia Dell Brookover Ammons.
A 1966 graduate of Fairview High School, he then continued his education at Penn State Fayette. While employed at Bechtel Corporation, he answered the call to serve in the United States Army III Corps Artillery at Fort Sill during Vietnam. Returning to civilian life, he worked at Fairmont Printing, Mon Power Company, Alcan Rolled Products and as a coal miner with Consolidated Coal Company’s Loveridge Mine.
He enjoyed operating farm machinery, gardening, repairing all things mechanical, watching Westerns, history, “Aerial America” and especially spoiling his grandson. He was a member of the WV Farm Bureau (52 years), NRA and UMWA Local 9909.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Rebecca Joy Lesho Ammons, whom he married on Nov. 20, 1971; son, Eric; daughter, Caroline; grandson, Gage; and brother, Ronald “Pete,” all of Fairview; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a sister-in-law, Michelle Robinson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters-in-law, Melvin and Ellen Ammons, Roger and Judy Ammons, William Jesse and Jo Tennant and Lola Eddy Ammons.
Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home, 2678 Hornet Highway, Hundred, from 11 a.m. until noon on Saturday. Funeral services will be held at noon with Evangelist Mark Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Park in Fairmont.
