Lawrence Christopher “Fish” Fischer, 62, of Morgantown, passed away Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness. He was born July 19, 1959, in Wheeling, a son of Helen Ann Petri Fischer and the late Lawrence William Fischer.
Fish was part of the first graduating class of Wheeling Park High School in 1977. He excelled at baseball in his youth and received three minor league baseball offers. His career started as a coal miner, and, after 10 years, he went to work for Hughart’s Supply. He started at the Star City location and later moved to the Sabraton location and retired as manager after over 30 years of dedicated service.
In his spare time, he enjoyed baseball, hunting and watching NASCAR. He was a member of the UMWA and Knights of Columbus. Fish’s daily reading of the Bible and Catholic faith led him to having strong Christian morals. Most of all, he was a loving and devoted husband, father and pap. His humor and kindness will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Delbert Fischer; daughters, Mandy Fischer and Ashley DeBerry; his two grandchildren that he cherished spending time with, Daylen and Delaney DeBerry; sisters, Carrie Sue Roach and husband Michael, Sherry Ann Blanchard and husband Craig and Gwen Bertok and husband Eric; his faithful canine companion Stella; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In honoring the family’s wishes, cremation is being arranged by Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
