David Goff

David Ross Goff, 71, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away on Nov. 22, 2021.

Born in Morgantown, he obtained his Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from West Virginia University and thereafter obtained an MSEE in electrical engineering from Caltech. David started his career at Bell Labs in New Jersey. He was employed as director of engineering at Force Inc. and Olson Technologies and was the author of the Fiber Optic Reference Guide.

As a child, David built a gas-powered go-cart and performed a wide variety of scientific experiments in the family basement, a stepping stone to his professional career. He had a passion for problem solving. David’s hobbies were photography, astronomy, rock hunting and hiking — anything outdoors. David also tried his hand at skydiving, driving on a NASCAR track and being in a fighter plane during a mock dogfight. He loved music of all types and was a worldwide traveler, but he what enjoyed most was spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Reba Goff; and his first wife, Maria Goff. David is survived by his loving wife, Pamela G. Goff; sons, Jonathan Goff and Christopher Goff; daughter-in-law, Rania Goff; granddaughter, Serene Goff; siblings, Larry Goff (Trudy), Jeffrey Goff (Sara), Carolyn Jackson (Rusty), Phillip Goff (Kathleen); brother-in-law, Mark Gibson (Stacey); and many beloved nieces, nephews and other extended family.

A memorial service will be held at the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27, with the Rev. Don Makin officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to pancan.org or the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Duke Cancer Center, Blue Ridge Cancer Center and Good Samaritan Hospice for their excellent care of David.
