The Shack serves free meals for pick-up

When COVID-19 hit and The Shack Neighborhood House had to halt its in-person programming, the nonprofit in Pursglove started serving free hot meals three times a week.
“We started off kind of slow,” said Shawnda Cook, the Shack’s executive director.
But eventually between 50 and 170 meals were being served to the community each evening they were offered.
Since June, when the Shack was able to restart its regular programming, the meals are once again only offered for the holidays.
“We’re not sure what to expect,” Cook said Tuesday morning, hours before the organization’s free Thanksgiving meal kicked off.
Anyone and everyone was invited to drive by the Blue Horizon Drive location and pick up as many to-go meals as they requested.
And though Cook had no clear estimate of how many people would drop by, she said The Shack would be prepared, with the help of grants, such as one from Empty Bowls Monongalia, and individual donations.
