Thelma Huggins

Thelma D. Huggins, 89, of Reedsville, absented her body and became present with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 19, 2021, at her home, with her son and daughter by her side.

She was born Nov. 28, 1931, in Kanes Creek. She was the sixth daughter of the late Bruce and Vernie (Stuchell) Moran.

Thelma was a charter member of Mill Chapel United Brethren in Christ Church in Reedsville. She continued her membership serving on the board, taught both children’s and adult Sunday school classes and was a prayer warrior throughout her life. In everything she did, she wanted God to be glorified.

In her lifetime, Thelma sold Avon, was a poll worker, worked for the Assessor’s Office and worked as a bookkeeper at Southern States in Kingwood and Morgantown, as well as Pierce’s Pharmacy in Morgantown.

Her pastimes included reading, especially the Bible, and quilting. Over the years she quilted at least 250 quilts, many of which she gave to members of her family. She had a great capacity for love. Family meant everything to her. She babysat for many children throughout the years, whom she considered her “family” and loved as grandchildren.

Thelma is survived by one son and spouse, Bruce Paul and Judy Huggins; one daughter and spouse, Rebecca “Becky” and Dennis Brill, of Wardensville; one brother, Lawrence Moran, of Arthurdale; her grandchildren, Dustin Brill and Jennifer, of Mechanicsville, Md., Jeremy Feather and Tara, of Morgantown, Derek and Amanda Brill, of Wardensville, and Jacob Feather and companion Kaitlyn Blackwell, of Reedsville; great-grandchildren, Bodie Brill, Abigail Brill, Olivia Brill, Ian Brill, Amelia Brill, Alexis Feather and McKenzie Feather; and two sisters-in-law, Colleen Moran, of Bruceton Mills, the prayer warrior, and Victoria “Vicky” Moran, of Marysville, Calif. Also surviving, are many beloved nieces and nephews, as well as three very special friends, Shirley Clark, Mike Adams and Paula Ridenour.

She was the matriarch of the family, and she took that role seriously. She was the “Keeper of Dates” and other family information. Her wisdom and strength were examples for everyone who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Howard Lee Huggins; her daughter and spouse, Deborah and Gary Feather; her brothers, Sylvester “Jack” Moran, Carl David Moran, Joseph Moran, Otis Moran, Bruce ”Pat” Moran, Lester Moran; a special cousin, who was reared as a brother, Terra “Tang” Moran; and her sisters, Olive Heath, Alice Burke, Betty Groves, Madeline Calvert and Lalah Lester Noland.

Friends will be received at Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price St., from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21, and in the funeral home chapel, from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 22, with Paster David Kisamore officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Morgantown off the Goshen Road.

Memorial donations may be made in Thelma’s memory to: Mill Chapel United Brethren in Christ Church, P.O. Box 78, Reedsville, WV 26547.

You have asked, what can you do to help the family? You may help by wearing a mask for the ones who are able to wear a mask. So, masks are required to be worn. Thank you for honoring our request.
