Gerald L. “Jerry” Barber, 62, of Simpson, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2021, at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. He was born on June 5, 1959, a son of the late Charles “Chill” Barber and Deanna (Waller) Starcher, of Barrackville.
Gerald was preceded in death by his father, his brother, Charles Ray Barber Jr. and his daughter, Sherry Lynn Barber.
In addition to his mother, Gerald is survived by two sons: Jeremy Barber (Tonya) of Fairmont, and Benjamin “Ben” Barber, of Simpson; two grandchildren, Jocelynn and Brooklynn Barber; four siblings, Lois Carol Purdy (Kurt), of Fairfax, Va., Curt Barber (Kim), of Fairmont, Bradley “Brad” Barber, of Morgantown, and Bonnie Webster (Carl), of Fairmont; numerous nieces and nephews; and his very loved and faithful companion, his dog, “Chewy.”
Jerry was a graduate of West Fairmont High School Class of 1976 and worked for Citynet in the outside plant doing fiber work. He loved riding Harleys, shooting pool, hunting and fishing. His laugh or “giggle” was one of a kind, and he loved making people laugh and happy, whether it was from his pranks or light-hearted nature. His family and friends were very important to him, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Jerry’s wishes for cremation will be honored and a celebration of his life will be held at a future date to be announced. The Bradley J. Mayle Funeral Home is honored to serve the Barber family at this time.
