Norma Fern (Cress) Hayes of Kingwood, died on Friday, Nov. 19, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her family that she so loved.
Fern was born Jan. 12, 1929, in Masontown, a daughter of the late Forest Clyde and Birdie Blanch (Shaffer) Cress.
Her family was an original Homestead Family in Arthurdale. She was a 1947 graduate of Arthurdale High School. Fern enjoyed gardening, canning and baking for her family, especially baking with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took pride in hanging the American flag every morning for her husband, Charley, and all veterans and active duty military.
She is survived by four sons and spouses, Charles “Chuck” and Krista Hayes, of Eglon, Dan and Nancy Hayes, Dave and Kathy Hayes and Kimble “Kim” and Kathy Hayes, all of Kingwood; a daughter, Joy Moore, of Kingwood; 10 grandchildren: Adam, Eric, Kara, Ashley, Justin, Amy, Kyle, Jason, Bethany and Ethan; and 10 great-grandchildren, Kaden, Kamryn, Charlie, Nora, Hazel, Scarlett, Eli, Sam, Nash and London.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Charles “Charley” Hayes, April 4, 2006; two brothers, Darrel and Ben Cress; and two sisters, Hilda O’Malley and Kathleen Moran.
Friends will be received at Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price St., from noon on Sunday, Nov. 21, until the time of the funeral in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. with the Rev. David Spence officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Masontown. Masks are optional.
