Elmer Claude “Junior” Grimm Jr., 74, of Terra Alta, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021, at his home with his family by his side.
Born May 8, 1947, in Terra Alta, he was the son of the late Elmer Claude Grimm Sr. and Hallie Marie (Summerfield) Grimm. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Dortha J. Fraley.
Junior graduated in 1965, from Terra Alta High School. He continued his education at Potomac State college, where he earned an associate’s degree in business in 1967. Later that year, he joined the U.S. Army Reserve, enlisting at Camp Dawson. Junior completed his basic training at Fort Benning, Ga. After basic training he went to AIT in Huntsville, Ala., at Red Stone Arsenal Missile School. In 1968, he went to the National Hardwood Lumber Association Lumber Grading School in Memphis, Tenn., graduating after six months. Following graduation from NHLA in July of 1968, he went into business with his father and started Grimm Lumber Inc., Terra Alta. In 1996, he was honored by the State of West Virginia as the “Tree Farmer of the Year.” Junior was an avid hunter who enjoyed the outdoors and made many trips throughout his life to Alaska, Idaho, Montana, British Columbia, Canada and New Mexico, as well as spending much time on his own property, hunting and enjoying the outdoors. To Junior, work was a pleasure.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Ann (Ruppenthal) Grimm; three daughters, Rebecca Rena “Becky” Moyer and husband Eric, of Oakland, Md., Amy Lynne Alt and husband David, of Petersburg, and Melinda Ann “Mindy” Teets and husband David, of Oakland, Md.; six granddaughters, Hannah Moyer, Brogan Moyer, Abigail Teets, Molli Teets, Ellianna Alt and Aubrielle Alt; two step-grandsons, Levi Alt and Dylan Alt; two sisters, Louise Messenger, of Oakland, Md., and Phyllis Grimm, of Morgantown; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Drive, Oakland, MD 21550, from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday. Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17, with Junior’s friend, Leo Eby and Pastor Keith Eby, officiating. Interment will be at the Grimm Family Cemetery, Terra Alta.
