Olaf Hugh “Buddy” Shafer, 87, of Bruceton Mills, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021, at his home.
The son of the late Frank and Dessie Hauger Shafer, he was born May 22, 1934, in Brandonville (Cherry Grove).
Buddy was a heavy equipment operator during much of his working career.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda M. Sexton Shafer, and blessed with a perfect blended family of five boys and one girl: Dwight and Pam Shafer, Dwayne and Sharon Shafer, Ronald and Debby Shafer, Donald and Kathy Shafer, Freddie Bowser and Denise and a daughter, Billie Jean and J.P. Frye. Also surviving are two sisters, Lou Anna Sisler and Martha Smith; a sister-in-law, Mary Shafer; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, two of whom could not be here, D.J. Shafer, of Las Vegas, and Bryan Bowser and his wife, Hazel, of the U.S. Navy, in Japan; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Feather Shafer, the mother of their four boys; three sisters and their husbands, Ada Mae and Joe Krempel, Glenna and Dave McCarty and Maxine and Hubert Sisler; six brothers: Paul, Alva and wife Virginia, Herbert and wife Vertrude, Russel, Fredy and Franklin; and a granddaughter and her husband, Tanya and John Hlatky.
Following a private visitation, family and friends are welcome to attend the funeral and graveside burial service at the Centenary Cemetery, Bruceton Mills, at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, with Pastors Paul Sisler and John Warnick officiating.
Due to the prevalence of the COVID virus, masks and social distancing are recommended.
