Irma Jean Robinson Jackson was born Dec. 7, 1930, in Rankin, Pa. to the late John and Vervy C. Robinson. From an early age, she attended the Lincoln Avenue Church of God and in 1948, she graduated from Rankin High School.
In 1949, she married Harry K. Jackson. After several enjoyable years living with Sheila and Tom Sawyer’s family, they moved to the Crestas Terrace neighborhood of North Versailles, Pa. where she spent the majority of her adult life. She furthered her education by earning both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from the University of Pittsburgh. In addition to spending a few years as a teacher, Irma was an active member of the Crestas Terrace community and the East Allegheny School District while raising two sons, Kerry and Keith. This level of engagement led to many lasting memories as Irma and Harry constantly hosted friends and family at their house on Ferdinand Drive, nicknamed the “Do Drop Inn.” Whenever possible, they traveled to visit family and expand their circle of friends. After retirement, these travels included cross country adventures and a Caribbean cruise. Before and after Harry’s passing, Irma served as an unofficial communication “hub” for relatives spread all over the country.
Irma left us suddenly on Oct. 24, 2021, while at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Vervy Robinson; her Stepmother, Lillian Robinson; her son, H. Kermit Jackson; and her husband, Harry K. Jackson.
Still with us to cherish her memory is her sister, Faye Robinson Wiley Matthews; her son, Keith Jackson with his wife Teresa Prullage; loving nieces and nephews; and caring friends and neighbors.
Services will be at Watts Memorial Chapel in Braddock, Pa., Thursday, Nov. 4. Family and friends visitation begins at 11 am with funeral services starting at noon.
