Mon Health System
KINGWOOD — Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital expands its specialties offered with the addition of oncologist, Dr. Ihtishaam Qazi, to its staff.
Qazi will treat a variety of cancers and will focus on lung, breast and gastrointestinal conditions. He will now treat lymphomas, leukemia and mylomnas at the Kingwood hospital.
“In the last decade, we have seen real change and progress in cancer treatment. I chose to come to Mon Health because the system is part of that progress,” Qazi said. “We are really targeting more therapies for particular cancers and seeing success.”
He said his family had many friends who were physicians, and so choosing to go into the medical field was an easy choice for him. During his undergraduate work at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Qazi became interested in cancer research, thus his specialization today, but he sees the field as a place to give patients hope.
“In my perspective, I think that patients in West Virginia are much more appreciative of the care that a doctor gives them,” he said. “We are really respected here and that promotes a good relationship between myself and the patient. I am happy to be here.”
Qazi attended Nitro High School and received his undergraduate degree from Case Western Reserve. His medical degree and residency are from West Virginia University as well as his fellowship in hematology and oncology. He and his wife, Siru, have three children. In his spare time, Qazi coaches’ recreational soccer.
