Trinity scores 38 in first quarter on way to 52-0 win over Hancock (Md.)

HANCOCK, Md. — Trinity Christian jumped out early and never looked back as it cruised to a 52-0 victory over Hancock (Md.) on Friday night.

Hancock received the ball on the opening kickoff.  After Trinity forced a quick three-and-out by the Panthers, junior Levi Teets fielded the punt and raced 38 yards for the game’s first score.  A couple more three-and-outs by the Warriors’ active defense led to two more scores by Teets, giving Trinity a 24-0 lead.  Teets finished the game with 3 touchdowns on three touches (a 53-yard TD run and 3-yard TD run in addition to the punt return), all coming by midway through the first quarter.

Senior Anthony Finn scored on a 1-yard run and sophomore Carmelo Kniska added a 36 yard pick-6 to round out the scoring in the first quarter. Freshman backup quarterback Noah Toler connected with sophomore Brady Summers for a 33-yard scoring strike for the lone score of the second quarter.

Junior Ethan Jorge got in on the scoring action as he took the opening kickoff of the second half back 70 yards for the final score of the game.  The second half was played with shortened quarters and a running clock as Trinity went on to complete its third shut-out of the season.

Freshman QB Chayce Adams was successful on four 2-point conversion attempts, with three passes and one rush.  The conversion receptions went to sophomore Ben Lohmann, Toler and Kniska.  Junior Kyle Knight was successful on both of his extra point PAT kicks.

Defensively, the Warriors held the Panthers to less than 25 yards of total offense and forced four turnovers.  In addition to the interception by Kniska, Toler added another interception. Teets and Finn both came up with fumble recoveries.
Coach Christopher Simpson was glad to see his younger players go out and perform well.

“It was a great opportunity to get some guys experience,” he said. “I was proud of the way they stepped up. Several of my guys got to score for the first time and got to make their own Friday night light memory. Hats off to Hancock and their growing program.”

Trinity improved to 5-1 on the season and hosts Tygarts Valley next Friday.
