Despite low numbers, Trinity blasts Hundred 63-0

HUNDRED — Following a forfeit win over Paden City earlier this week, Trinity Christian improved to 4-1 with a 63-0 win at Hundred on Friday night.

The Warriors were without any substitutes as several of their players were unavailable for the game due to COVID contact-tracing protocols.

Hundred received the opening kickoff, but turned the ball over on an interception and return to the Hornets’ 8-yard line by Ben Lohmann.  Chayce Adams connected with Levi Teets for an 8-yard TD on the Warriors first offensive play to give the Warriors the lead less than 2 minutes into the game.

Offensively, the Warriors had numerous big plays.  Adams stepped in for his first start at QB and played well.  He went 10 of 13 for 160 yards with 4 TDs and one interception. Teets caught eight of those passes for 134 yards receiving. In addition to the opening TD, he had TD catches of 41 and 38 yards.  He also rushed the ball four times for 107 yards, including a 56-yard TD run.  Teets’ fifth TD of the game came on a 37 yard punt return.  One other punt return for 34 yards gave him over 300 all-purpose yards for the game (312 yards).

Kyle Knight also had a big game.  He had a fake punt early in the game, which he ran in for a 48-yard touchdown for Trinity’s second score.  He also had another rushing TD (44 yards) and an 18 yard receiving touchdown.  Additionally, as the team’s placekicker, he was 7 of 8 on PAT attempts and ran a high snap on a PAT attempt in for a 2-point conversion.  He recorded 4 touchbacks on his kickoffs.  Anthony Finn also found the end zone on a 17-yard TD run as he rushed 13 times for 79 yards.

The Warriors used another strong defensive effort to force six turnovers in the game.  In addition to Lohman, Teets and Knight had interceptions.  The defense came up with three fumble recoveries as Josiah Sheffstall, Aaron White and Finn each had one recovery.

Head coach Christopher Simpson said he was proud of his team’s effort on the night.

“The COVID bug hit us and dropped us to 11 eligible players,” he said. ” Many guys played new positions and proved how resilient they are. It reminds us that we should never take a moment for granted during this time.”

The Warriors next travel to Hancock, Md., next Friday.
