More changes are coming within the leadership of Monongalia County’s parks.
The Monongalia County Commission held a brief mid-meeting executive session Wednesday before voting to accept the resignation of Camp Muffly superintendent Misty Seum.
Seum, who was in attendance, was given the option of having the discussion in open session but opted to meet privately with the commissioners.
Seum was hired in March 2018 to replace outgoing superintendent Rachel Mitchell, who the commission rehired this past June as the venue manager for the Mon County Extension Services and 4-H Center.
During that same June meeting, the commission promoted Mason-Dixon Historical Park Superintendent JR Petsko to the newly created parks director position.
County Administrator Rennetta McClure said Petsko will oversee operations at Camp Muffly until a new superintendent is hired.
Also on Wednesday, the commission certified the outcome of the Sept. 25 special election renewing the excess levy for the Monongalia County Board of Education for the next five years.
Monongalia County Clerk Carye Blaney said 3,999 votes were cast in favor of the levy compared to 898 against, for a voter turnout of 8.22%.
In comparison, the 2016 renewal vote — which was held during a general election — saw 24,768 ballots cast in favor of the levy and 11,333 cast against.
Lastly, the commission will hold a public hearing next Wednesday for text amendments to the West Run Planning District Zoning Ordinance.
The change will add language recognizing there are various types of “adult uses.”
“We’re proposing to add clarity to distinguish limited video lottery from other forms of adult usage,” County Planning Director Andrew Gast-Bray said. “They’re still conditional uses and will still have to go through the whole rigmarole, but it would not be assumed that it is the same type of use as exotic dancing, for instance.”
