Carl Gay Sypolt, 91, of Rowlesburg, died Saturday Oct. 2, 2021, at home with loving family by his side.
He was born, March 1, 1930, in Preston County, a son of the late Elizabeth Bolyard and was raised by his maternal grandparents, Betha and Virginia Sever.
He was a loving father; grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He was the owner and operator of Sypolt Enterprises, which included a saw mill, septic and excavation company, a gas station and convenience store.
He is survived by his second wife of 50 years, Lettie Bell Jones Sypolt; four sons, Ronald G. Sypolt and wife Joyce, of Rowlesburg; Lonnie R. Sypolt, of Akron Ohio, Gregory A. Sypolt and wife Rhonda, of Rowlesburg, Timothy N. Sypolt and wife Peggy, of Terra Alta; six daughters, Carla M. Lothes and husband George, of Montrose, Celesta G. Rodeheaver and husband William, of Terra Alta, Amy L. Amie and husband Arch Amie III, of Parsons, Ann L. Hunt and husband John, of Hazelton, Angela L. White and companion Elvis Moats, of Rowlesburg, and Alice L. Todd and husband Judd, of Thornton; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Sigley Sypolt; 36 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lee Auvil, of Rowlesburg; and a sister, Sylvia Teets, of Blacksville.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Edith C. Watkins Sypolt; three sons, Edward G. Sypolt, Michael J. Sypolt and Anthony C. Sypolt; several brothers and sisters; and two great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may call at Burke Funeral Home in Rowlesburg, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7 and from noon until 1 p.m., the funeral hour, Friday, Oct. 8, with Pastor Pat Cassidy and Chaplin Wendy Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Israel Cemetery in Fellowsville.
During the visitation and funeral service, social distancing and masks should be observed.
