Geraldine “Jerry” Wehner, 99, of Kingwood, passed away Sept. 24, 2021.
She was born in Gilmer County, on Jan. 3, 1922, a daughter of the late Karl Dewey Pickens and Hattie J. Wigner Pickens. She grew up in Morgantown, and graduated from West Virginia University in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science degree and teacher’s certificate.
She served in World War II in the U.S. Navy WAVES. She married attorney Charles V. Wehner on March 15, 1946, who was associated with F. E. Parrack Esq., in Kingwood. She was a biology teacher and substitute teacher at Kingwood High School. They purchased the first hospital building in Preston County, built in 1905, and renovated it as Wehner Law Offices.
She served as president of the Kingwood Womans’ Club and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, vice president of Friends of the Kingwood Public Library Executive Board and was a volunteer for special education classes. In addition, she was active with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Parent Teacher Associations and high school band and sports groups. She was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Pamela A. Wehner, of Rogers, Ark.; Patricia J. Wehner, of Birmingham, Ala.; and Dr. Paulette S. Wehner Charles (Dr. Mitch Charles), of Huntington; and one son, Charles C. Wehner Esq., (Gail), of Pacific Palisades, Calif. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Emilie S. Charles and Olivia G. Charles, of Huntington; Amanda M. Hendry (Frank), of Alexandria, Va., and Matthew V. Wehner, of San Francisco; and two great-grandsons, Stephen Alexander Hendry and Charles Jon Hendry, of Alexandria, Va.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles V. Wehner; two sons, Stephen V. Wehner and Richard K. Wehner; and her two sisters, Waneta Swank and Lois Taylor Springer.
Friends may call at Browning Funeral Home, Kingwood, from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Kingwood, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, with Father Soosai Arpudam Arokiadass H.G.N. as celebrant. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Kingwood.
