Roscoe Dawson

Roscoe Perry Dawson, 89, passed away Sept. 25, 2021, at Mon Health Medical Center. He was born Feb. 22, 1932, in Redstone, PA the son of the late Robert and Ruby Williams Dawson.

He retired from West Side Telecommunications in Morgantown with 40-plus years in the industry. On one occasion during that time, he served as president of the WV Telephone Association. As an Army veteran, he served our country in the 1950s as a medical aidman and received the National Defense Service and Good Conduct Medals.

Prior to his retirement, Roscoe was an active and dedicated member of Riverside Apostolic Church in Morgantown, where he served in multiple capacities, including Sunday school and bus ministry and later as a board member and deacon. During his retirement, he spent winters in Florida, where he was a faithful member of Cypress Grove Fellowship Church in Orlando, Fla.

His loyalty and service to God was not reserved to just his church, his joyful love for the Lord flowed throughout his daily life. He never met a person who didn’t become a friend. The heartfelt cheer he possessed was passed along to all people who had the pleasure of his company. He will be forever remembered as someone who always had a kind, cheerful smile and genuine concern for all.

In addition to his parents, Roscoe was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ruth Dodrill Dawson, and eldest daughter, Susan Jackson, both of Morgantown.

He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of eight years, Betty; son, Michael and wife Darlene, of Morgantown; daughter, Mary Beth Seymour and life-partner Mark Moore, of Fairmont; and stepson, David Lemley and wife Laura Ann.

Roscoe is also survived by siblings, Sturgis and wife Loraine Dawson, of Masontown, Pa., David and wife Sandra Dawson, of Toledo Ohio, Earnley and wife Beverly Dawson, of Summerfield, Fla., and Genevieve and husband Don Wingard, of Grindstone, Pa.

Roscoe was survived by numerous grandchildren, Jason Jackson and partner Melissa Baker, Kenneth “Harley” Jackson and wife Jennifer, Stephanie Jackson and partner Philip Schnopp, Amanda Seymour, Melanie Filandino, Shaun Robinson and Courtney Jackson. He was also blessed with step-grandchildren, Shawna Smith and husband Tim, Chara Lemley and partner Shawn Mathias, all of Morgantown. Roscoe’s living relatives extend to great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at The River Church (Riverside Apostolic Church) 4234 Dents Run Blvd., Westover from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday,
Sept. 29, and again from noon until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. Thursday with Bishop E.S. Harper and Pastor Nathaniel Hudson officiating. Roscoe will be laid to rest at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
