New nonprofit brings classical music series to Morgantown

West Virginia is now home to the Summit Chamber Music Series, a nonprofit organization founded by Sunmi Chang, a classically trained violinist and winner of the 2007 International Markneukirchen and Sion-Valais International violin competitions.

Earning her Artist Diploma and Master of Music degree at Yale University and her Doctor of Musical Arts in violin performance from the University of Michigan, she brings with her a network of distinguished chamber music artists to Morgantown for four concerts in the inaugural 2021-22 music series.

“It is so special to bring live music back featuring some of the most sought-after musicians on stage today in the most intimate and inspiring setting, where you will be able to fully immerse yourself in the magic of chamber music,” Chang said.

The first concert was held Saturday at St. Thomas A Becket Church in a harp and violin duo performance. There will be three more performances, continuing into 2022.

The concerts will feature musicians including principal cellist from the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Anne Martindale Williams, and renowned clarinetist and former artistic director of the Chamber Music Society of the Lincoln Center, David Shifrin.

Tickets are $25 for general admission and $5 for students at https://summitcms.org/.

The organization’s mission is to bring peace, joy and comfort to the community.

“More than ever, I hope this is the beginning of a bigger, more joyous classical movement here in Morgantown,” Chang said.
