Harold “Hap” Edward Martin, 78, of Morgantown, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Mon Health Medical Center. He was born on Feb. 13, 1943, in Terra Alta, son of the late Charles Nathan and Ethel Blanche (Moore) Martin.
Hap enlisted in the U.S. Army, which he proudly served and went on to enlist in the Army Reserves, retiring as chief warrant officer 4 after 24 years of total service. He worked as a computer programmer for West Virginia University, at which time he retired in 2003 after working 28 years.
His pastime consisted of all activities that involved the outdoors, such as playing horseshoes, fishing, hunting and camping.
Hap was known as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.
He was survived for a short time after his death by his loving wife, Sandy (Fizer) Martin; children, Paula Thorn and spouse Be, of Morgantown, Tami Phoulom and spouse Dee, of Pomona Park, Fla., and son, Bryan Martin and spouse Melissa, of Cincinnati; grandchildren, Karina Thorn, Martyna and Bryce Phoulom, Mackenzie and spouse Nick and Mitchell Martin and spouse Madison; great-grandchild, Kimber Teets; and siblings, Melvin Martin and spouse Suzanne, Phyllis Hoffman and spouse Bruce and Dennis Martin and spouse Reva.
In addition to his parents, and soon after his death, his wife, Hap was preceded in death by his siblings, Leslie Martin, Carol Hoffman and his previous spouse, Judith Martin.
Friends and family will be received for a joint visitation with his wife at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 10 a.m. until the time of their funeral service at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 24, 2021, with the Rev. Bruce L. Hoffman officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
