Michael Naugle

Michael Levi Naugle, beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, Beer and Jim Beam connoisseur, comedian and smile provider, lawn mower crash derby participant, professional nurse hassler and all-around good man left this earth on Wednesday Sept. 15, 2021, after a two-year battle with cancer.

Born Sept. 9, 1946, and raised in the wonderful Cumberland Valley community of Walnut Bottom, Pa., Mike moved to the beautiful hills of Morgantown, in the early 70s to start his family and career. Mike worked at West Virginia University for 30 years before his retirement and has spent the last two years of his retirement battling cancer until it finally beat him on Wednesday, Sept. 15th.

Known for his smile and laugh, his ability to do and fix anything, and his straight forward, no-nonsense candor — Mike leaves behind his wife of 28 years, Gena Naugle; his two sons and their companions, Shayne Naugle and Linda Frey and Taz Naugle and Michelle Bissell; daughter, Amy Jo Naugle; stepson, Michael Workman; stepdaughters, Heather Rios and Gianne Workman; granddaughters, Olivia, Madison and Sheridan Naugle, Aidan Workman, Celia Workman, Elsa Workman, Adrian Carroll, Nadiya Carroll and Gazala Carroll; and dear family friend, Patty Kinsley. He is also survived by his two brothers, Steve and Jeff Naugle, and sisters, Martha “Marty” Sheaffer and Margaret “Peg” Fulps. He is preceded in death by his parents, Maynard “Jack” Naugle and Ilene Naugle and his stepmother, Gladys Naugle.

In lieu of a funeral service, the family will celebrate the life of Mike through a celebration of life party to be held at a later date. There, friends and family will pay tribute, tell stories, share fond memories, listen to Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard and just what he would have wanted — not to mourn his passing, but to celebrate his life.

Hastings Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
