Victoria Bruhn

Victoria C. Bruhn “Bruhnie,” 61, died Aug. 27, 2021, surrounded by her friends and family; she joined her mother, Sandy in paradise.

Victoria was born Oct. 25, 1959, in Wheeling, to Jim and Sandy Bruhn.

In 1963, she became a big sister to her only brother, Jimmy. After spending most of Vicki’s early years in Mount Olivet, the family moved to Kentucky, where Vicki graduated from Tates’s Creek High School. She then moved to her favorite place, “The home of the Mountaineers,” Morgantown. Education and learning have always been a priority to Vicki. She first graduated from West Virginia University in 1989 with a BSBA in business administration, then again in 2001 with a master’s in elementary education followed by a second master’s in reading in 2003. After spending several years as the director of Pleasant Day School in Morgantown, Vicki accepted a teaching job at Springfield Middle School in Wilson County. Bruhnie moved to Wilson, N.C., in the fall of 2003 and continue to serve Springfield, N.C. through 2014. She concluded her teaching career at Southern Nash Middle School as a math teacher in 2021. Vicki loved building relationships with people and gave herself many opportunities to do so. She was an avid softball player, was a ticket taker for the WVU football games and was involved in numerous philanthropic endeavors. Possibly, she was most proud to be a devoted member of the WV Jaycees, even holding a State Senate Office for several years. Vicki loved to travel, as well as host company at her home. She annually made a road trip to visit friends and family up and down the East Coast and to the Midwest.

Vicki was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Virgil and Nelda Harman; her sweet mother, Sandra Bruhn; and paternal grandparents, George and Elmina Bruhn.

She will be incredibly missed by her father, Jim Bruhn and wife Karen, of Wheeling; brother, Jimmy Bruhn and wife Jodi, of Clearwater, Fla.; along with many special and loved aunts, uncles and cousins. She will also leave the fondest memories and lessons learned to her caregiving friends, Leslie, Dana, Sharon and Lynn, who have been her family and rocks throughout this past year.

A memorial visitation will be held at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St., Wheeling, WV 26003 (304-242-2311), from 1 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 5, with the Rev. Jake Steele officiating. Interment to follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

And, of course, Vicki would want you to know, “the back door’s always open” and “she hopes to see you there.”
