MORGANTOWN — The back of an upcoming Morgantown business, the Wicked Water Saloon, caught fire Tuesday afternoon.
The Saloon, at 350 East Brockway Ave., is a soon-to-be bar and restaurant that owners planned to open in the coming weeks. Morgantown Fire Department Lt. Brian Izzo said the fire may have been caused by soldering or other construction being done as the staff was renovating the building, but was unable to confirm at the time. He said damages appeared to be minimal.
Michael McCusker, owner of the saloon, said he was in the front room conducting an interview when one of his employees informed him of smoke coming from the back end of the building. After attempting to spray the fire with water, he decided it was time to call 911.
“The building was built in ‘47,” McCusker said. “…It’s just one of those things, I guess.”
The Saloon originally planned to open on Aug. 1, but this date was pushed back to mid-September. Until damages are assessed, McCusker said he is unsure whether the saloon’s opening day will be impacted by the fire.
