Vicki Jean Trout, 63, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 13, 2021, after a long illness.
Vicki was born June 19, 1958, at Grafton City Hospital in Grafton, to Hester Pauline Thorn and Hubert “Buck” Thorn. Vicki graduated from Tunnelton High School in Tunnelton, in 1976, and worked in various roles for Preston Memorial Hospital and the Preston County Board of Education throughout her career in addition to running Vicki’s Variety Shop, a thrift store in Tunnelton, in later years. Most of all, she will be remembered as a dedicated wife and loving mother. She married Stanley, her husband of 45 years, on May 1, 1976, in Tunnelton, Vicki was actively involved as president of the PTO at both Tunnelton-Denver Elementary and South Preston Middle Schools, as well as volunteering in Fellowsville youth league baseball and basketball as both a scorekeeper and concessionaire for over a decade. She also enjoyed decorating cakes and designing Halloween costumes for each of her children.
Vicki is survived by her husband, Stanley Eugene Trout, of Tunnelton; two sons, Jason (Darci) Trout, of Elmhurst, Ill., and Evan (Steffany) Trout, of Farmington, Pa.; five grandchildren, Conor and Avery Trout, of Elmhurst, Ill., and Ellie, Emmie and Embrie Trout, of Farmington, Pa., mother, Hester Pauline Thorn, of Kingwood, and sister Darlene Thorn, of Jamestown, N.Y. Vicki was preceded in death by her father, Hubert “Buck” Thorn.
During the last several years, Vicki was a resident of Janet’s Heavenly Home in Fellowsville, where she was meticulously cared for by the wonderful staff. The family would like to give a special thank you to Montanna Doman, Savannah Doman, Janet Haddix, Vanessa Haskiel, Chastity Swisher and Raylee Swisher who went above and beyond daily to ensure she was extraordinarily well-taken care of and comfortable. Also, the family would like to extend its gratitude to Sandra Walton, Geena Cassady, Olive Cassady, Dr. Mike Schwarzenberg and WV Caring, of Arthurdale (Penny Fletcher, Dena Larew, Casey Simmons, Cheryl Stevens, and Lori Taylor).
A private service was held by Morgan Funeral Home in Reedsville, at Maplewood Cemetery in Kingwood, with the Rev. Ray Frankhouser presiding, and music provided by Emilyn Bolyard.
