Martha Rose (Martinelli) Steele, 98, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2021, at her home in Las Vegas, with her beloved nephew and niece Mark and Lucy Denton by her side. Born in Morgantown in 1923, she was the daughter of the late Croce and Lasca (Teti) Martinelli.
When Martha was 19, she married George Steele, who preceded her in death after 49 years of marriage. She lived most of her adult life in Chicago, retiring after 40 years from Corn Products in Bedford Park, Ill. At 93 years of age, she moved to Las Vegas to live with family.
In her younger years, Martha was an active bowler, softball player, photographer, traveler and expert pinochle player. She enjoyed shows, casinos, chocolates and homemade peanut butter fudge. She loved giving gifts, sending greeting cards and reading. Children brought a twinkle to her beautiful blue eyes. The impact on everyone she met was extraordinary.
Although Martha had no children of her own, she is dearly loved by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She made all of them feel special and loved unconditionally.
In addition to her parents and husband, Martha is preceded in death by sisters and brothers-in-law: Lucy Tarantini (Mike), Viola Denton (Jack), Harriet McAlister (John), Irene Gaskins (Harold) and Mary Burbridge. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Charles Burbridge, of Masontown.
