BLACKSVILLE — Three young golfers are hungry to make their mark on the Clay-Battelle golf team this season.
Colby Barr, Kenly Statler and Kyndra Stewart are the lone three Cee-Bees, but head coach Marcy Rinehart is encouraged by their love of the sport.
“They have a love for the game and they enjoy being out on the course,” Rinehart said. “Golf is something that takes time. Golf is something where you either love it or you hate it, but most of the time you do both and still play anyway.”
Barr has been playing football for most of his life, but Rinehart said he comes from a “true golfing family.” He decided to hang up his cleats and put on the golf spikes to hit the links in 2021.
Stewart played last year on the team and Statler is playing golf for the first time.
Clay-Battelle only managed to play four matches last year due to the red level of Monongalia County.
The Cee-Bees had their first match a couple weeks ago at Mountainview.
“It felt great to be back out there,” Rinehart said. “Let’s hope this year is normal. The kids want to have more consistency and that will help.”
Rinehart is in her 17th year as head golf coach for Clay-Battelle.
