Free online climate forum set for Aug. 24

Newsroom@DominionPost.com

West Virginia climate groups to host free online “CLIMATE, JOBS and JUSTICE” forum from 7-8:30 p.m. Aug. 24.

Join Collin O’Mara, president of the National Wildlife Federation, plus leading environmental and policy experts in West Virginia to learn what Congress is considering to address the climate crisis and what it means for West Virginians.

“We have squandered the time when we could leisurely address the climate crisis,” said Climate Alliance co-founder Perry Bryant. “While it’s not too late, we now have to act decisively in order to avert the worst impacts of climate change. The forum will provide citizens with an understanding of what they can do to participate in shaping climate policy.”

The free forum will consider such questions as:

  • Will Congress’ actions be enough to reduce climate change?
  • How can I be involved in shaping climate policy?
  • How can West Virginia benefit from climate policy?

The event is sponsored by the WV Climate Alliance, the Citizens’ Climate Lobby West Virginia and a host of other state groups with a focus on the climate crisis. Speakers and hosts include:

  • Collin O’Mara, president/CEO of National Wildlife Federation: Policy Landscape and a Call to Action.
  • Angie Rosser, executive director of West Virginia Rivers Coalition.
  • Pam Nixon, West Virginia NAACP: Health and Environmental Justice.
  • Jeremy Richardson, Union of Concerned Scientist: A True Transition for Coal Miners and Coal Communities
  • Sean O’Leary, Ohio River Valley Institute: Job Creation in a Clean Economy.

Student speakers and a Q & A session.
