Bernice Mae Jenkins, 90, formerly of Morgantown, passed away peacefully July 27, 2021, at Edgewood Summit in Charleston. She was born in West Liberty, Ill., Nov. 8, 1930, to the late Clarence and Alice Menke.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 65 years, Charles Robert Jenkins, and her son, David Colin Jenkins.
She graduated from Newton High school in Newton, Ill., and attended classes at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater as well as West Virginia University.
Bernice was a loving mother and grandmother who cared deeply for all of God’s creatures and all of God’s creation. She enjoyed many creative activities, including sewing, pottery, gardening and investing in the stock market. She was an avid bowler and particularly talented at organizing her family of five on travel adventures all over the U.S. and Canada. She was a member of St John’s University Parish for many years until she retired to Charleston.
Bernice will be remembered and greatly missed by her sons, James Jenkins and Roger Jenkins; daughter, Jolyn Rutledge; and grandchildren, Shane Jenkins, Alec Jenkins, Allison Rutledge, Elizabeth Rutledge and Adam Rutledge.
A visitation will be held at St. John’s University Parish, Morgantown, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Bernice Jenkins will be laid to rest at East Oak Grove Cemetery in Morgantown after Mass.
