MORGANTOWN — A Morgantown man is in jail after a deputy allegedly found drugs while investigating a gunshot.
Calvin Wesley Edgell, 5/90, is charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin by the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office.
Just before 1 a.m. Deputy J. Ward was patrolling on Ed Dunn Road when he saw a “suspicious vehicle” driving with no lights on, according to a criminal complaint. A few moments later, he heard a gun shot come from the area the vehicle went.
Ward went to the area and spoke with the occupants of a different vehicle who told him “Wes” in the vehicle he spotted earlier fired a gun at them. Ward made contact with Edgell who admitted to firing the gun to protect his property, the complaint said. Edgell gave ward permission to get the gun from the residence and while inside, Ward spotted items he knew to be used for selling controlled substances, the compliant said.
Also, in plain view of Edgell’s vehicle there appeared to be packaged drugs in a clear container. With Edgell’s permission to search the vehicle, Ward found 16 bags of a substance Edgell said was heroin with one bag of methamphetamine. The complaint said there was also a small amount of cash next to the drugs.
A search of Edgell’s home found more heroin, packaging equipment, digital scales, and “cut,” according to the complaint.
Edgell is being held in North Central Regional Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
