Gov. announces 6th week winners

Another week, another round of winners in the Do It For Babydog: Save a life, Change your life vaccine sweepstakes.

Gov. Jim Justice announced the lucky West Virginians in the sixth week of drawings Wednesday.

The sweepstakes are being held as an incentive for residents to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Wanda Coleman, of Ronceverte, won this week’s $1 million prize.

The retired healthcare worker joined dozens of her former coworkers at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine  in Lewisburg for what they believed to be a ceremony to honor a recently-retired staff member.

After the program began,  Justice surprised the crowd by making an appearance and providing remarks spotlighting the importance of getting vaccinated against COVID-19.

Following his remarks, WVSOM officials announced that they would be honoring Coleman for her 10 years of service with the Robert C. Byrd Clinic on the campus of WVSOM.

But, as Coleman walked back to her seat, Justice asked her to turn around for one more surprise. At that moment, First Lady Cathy Justice and Babydog walked into the room carrying a check for $1 million.

John Fox, of Martinsburg, and Keelin Howes, of Buckhannon, were named as the winners of two full four-year scholarships to any public institution in the state.

Locally, Sheena Burwell, of  Morgantown, and Robert Masters, of Morgantown, received custom hunting rifles, while Sallie Davis, of Morgantown, Mark Jones, of Bruceton Mills, Terron Pendelton, of Grafton,  Nathan Plum, of Arthurdale, and Hunter Williams, of Fairmont, each walked away  with a free weekend getaway at any of the state’s parks.
