James Potts

James Franklin “Jim” Potts, 88, of National, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2021, at his residence. He was born Jan. 7, 1933, in National, a son of the late Irk William Potts and Helen Leola Stevens.

Jim worked as a coal miner at Pittswick Christopher No. 5 mine for 13 years. He was a Korean War veteran, serving from 1953 to 1955.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Jane “Patty” Potts (Duley); daughters, Wanda Louise Martin, Barbara Etta Loudermilk, Helen Marie LeMasters and Teresa Ann Smith; sons, James Michael “Mike” Potts, Ronald Lee “Ronny” Potts, Robert Eugene “Bo” Wiles Jr., John Randall “Hatchet” Wiles and David Michael “Catfish” Wiles; and 30 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Irk William Potts; mother, Helen Leola Stevens; brothers, George William “John” Potts, Harold Junior Potts, Irk Vivian Potts and Russell Paul Potts; sisters, Dixie Lee Cumpston and Judith Ann “Judy” Morton; and great-grandchildren, Amber Lynn Potts and Mercedes Cloe.

Friends will be received at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral, Home from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, July 29, and again from 10 a.m., Friday, until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Page officiating. Burial will follow at Arnettsville Cemetery with military honors.
