Neva Staley

Neva Bell Collett Staley, 94, of Callen Avenue, Morgantown, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021, while visiting her daughter in Kannapolis, N.C. She was born Jan. 15, 1927, in Daily, daughter of the late Bernard and Bessie Mae (Weese) Collett.

On Oct. 19, 1946, she married Dale V. Staley, of Morgantown, who preceded her in death in January 2002.

Neva was a loving mother and grandmother, always putting her family first. She enjoyed family vacations at the beach and visiting with her grandchildren in North Carolina. She also loved music and singing along with her favorite songs. She was a 1945 graduate of Elkins High School and a proud majorette in the Elkins High School Band. She was a member of Spruce Street United Methodist Church for many years. In fact, she and Dale were married in this church.

Neva is survived by her daughter, with whom she resided, Rita Friend and her husband David, of Morgantown; daughter, Tama and her husband Don Southard of Kannapolis, NC; son, Dale Staley II and his wife Sarah of Mt. Pleasant, NC; grandchildren, Chris Southard and Justin Southard, Makayla Staley, and Meghan Staley Canfield; great-grandsons, Caleb Southard and Joshua Southard and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers: Russell, Sherman, Ronald, Bernard and Sherwood Collett; and one sister, Juanita Evick.

Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 4-7 p.m., Friday, July 16, and again from 10 a.m., Saturday, July 17, until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bart R. Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to be made in Neva’s memory to Lawnwood Cemetery, P.O. Box 402, Morgantown, WV 26507, and to Spruce Street United Methodist Church, 386 Spruce St., Morgantown, WV 26505.
