Richard Paul “Rich” Shinkovich, 69, of Jere, passed away Saturday July 10, 2021, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 15, 1951, in Morgantown, a son of the late Albert and Elenora Shinkovich.
Rich was a 1969 graduate of University High School. After high school, Rich served his country as a member of the U.S. Army infantry and also completed Airborne Jump School. He completed his honorable service in the Army in 1972, and then went on to work for the U.S. Postal Service as a bulk mail technician for 42 years, until his retirement.
Rich had a love for antique cars and enjoyed traveling to car shows all over the east coast. When he wasn’t traveling to car shows or yard sales, you would find Rich at home in his garden. He had a love for his cats, but, most of all, he cherished the time he spent with his four grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Richard Shinkovich II and wife Dawn; daughter, Rachael Johnson and husband Mark; grandchildren, Trey Shinkovich, Colin Shinkovich, Tyler Shinkovich and Spencer Johnson; brothers, Stanley Shinkovich and wife Susie and Frank Shinkovich and wife Terry; and a sister, Christine Kennedy and husband Mike.
In addition to his parents, Rich was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Deborah Shinkovich.
Honoring Rich’s wishes, cremation is being provided by Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home.
