Life can be a little sweeter by enjoying homemade sweet treats and coffee at Sugar Bar Sweets + Coffee.
Sugar Bar, owned by Lauren Kayal, opened its door June 5.
The sweet treat and coffee shop aims to make life a little sweeter with its convenient desserts and show-stopping cakes.
The shop offers a full coffee and espresso menu and takes pride in creating and serving a variety of cookies, pastries and cakes.
All of Sugar Bar’s baked goods are homemade and made fresh every day. The freshly roasted coffee comes from Pennsylvania.
The shop also offers a selection of gluten-free options.
Sugar Bar’s mission is to positively influence and enrich the lives of people who come into the shop.
“Stuff like this makes people happy,” said Kayal. “And I like making people happy.”
Kayal prides herself in helping to make life a little sweeter with custom cakes for weddings, showers, birthday parties, or any special occasion.
The shop aims to be the most employee-centric and customer-focused company in the food industry.
“We take a lot of pride in our employees,” said Kayal. “The business doesn’t work without them.”
Due to the high demand of custom orders, Kayal has had to hire overnight bakers.
“I never thought I would have to hire overnight bakers,” said Kayal. “Because of them we are able to keep up with all of the orders.”
Sugar Bar offers customers a bright and positive atmosphere with its friendly employees, indoor and outdoor seating, and its greenery wall that is perfect for photos.
Kayal and her husband are the owners of Harma Hospitality Group, a food service and management company that owns, operates and develops a diverse portfolio of restaurant brands.
They also own Crab Shack Caribba and Dockside Grille, where Kayal has been baking for about 10 years.
Kayal liked to bake at home and her husband came to her with the idea to bake for the two restaurants, and from there her love and passion for baking grew.
During the 2020 pandemic, Kayal started taking custom orders for cakes, as well as her cheesecake waffle cones that she typically makes for Dockside Grille.
Due to the high demand for custom cake orders, Kayal and her husband talked about it and decided to open a sweets shop.
“We didn’t think that we would open during the pandemic, but we did it,” said Kayal. “I’m overwhelmed with how well everything has been going.”
Sugar Bar, 1028 Suncrest Towne Centre Drive, is open from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. everyday.
