Jack Barton Hawkins, 71, of Birds Creek Community, passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at his residence, with family by his side. He was born June 12, 1950, in Newburg, son of the late Olaf Frank and Idella Deretha McGinnis Hawkins.
Jack retired as a skid operator working in Timber and on the Sawmill for Weaver Brothers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Debra Rae Knight Hawkins, whom he married on Sept. 28, 1968; three children, John B. Hawkins and Lisa, of Arthurdale, Tonya R Hawkins, of Alabama, and Melissa Dawn Williams and Michael, of Newburg; four grandchildren, Jenna, Jacqueline, Destiny and Nicole; two great-granddaughters, Andi and Jurnee; one brother, Olaf Frank Hawkins Jr. and Ellen, of Newburg; three sisters, Joyce Bolyard and Charles, of Newburg, Brenda Swisher and Tom, of Newburg, and Becky Morrison, of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Adams and Janet Lipscomb. Family and friends will be received at the Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown St. Newburg, from 2-7 p.m., Friday, July 2, and from 11 a.m. Saturday, July 3, until the time of service at 1 p.m. with Pastor Gary Blosser officiating. A special thank you to Amedysis Hospice for all their support and care of Jack. Interment will follow at the Pratt Cemetery.
