“I’m Batman.” You heard that line in a raspy movie voice, didn’t you? Everyone knows Batman — he is a fan favorite. But no one expects to meet the fictional, DC Comic superhero in a super suit in real life, do they?
Well, it’s time to meet the real West Virginia Batman. Thanks to Mylan Park, as part of The Aquatic Center & Track Complex’s 2021 Superheroes to the Rescue-themed summer camp, everyone has a chance to meet Batman.
“WV Batman brings a powerful message of overcoming adversity for today’s youth,” Heather McIntyre, assistant director of marketing and outreach for Mylan Park. said. “He will join our lineup of everyday heroes such as first responders and military as part of our summer camp series. John (Buckland) has overcome so much in his youth and life that his message really connects with kids; and it doesn’t hurt that he shows up in a cool Batmobile, too.”
Mylan Park invites the community to come out to hear his empowering message of overcoming difficult circumstances like bullying and addiction.
WV Batman’s two-hour presentation is set for 1:15-3:15 p.m. July 8 — gates will open at 12:30 p.m. — at The Track Complex at Mylan Park, weather-permitting. The presentation will move into The Aquatic Center’s observation deck area of the competition pool if weather is poor.
Attendance is free and open to the public and attendees are encouraged to stay afterward for swimming and splashing in the Huntington Community Pool and Splash Pad for the public day pass rate of $6 per person (children 3 and under swim free with a paying adult). Photo sessions will also be available with Batman and the Batmobile.
Special rates and swim times are available for groups like daycare centers, area youth camps, large families, etc. by sending in a completed GROUP RATE application here: https://mylanpark.org/aquatic-center-rentals/ Groups can also book photo sessions with WV Batman and his Batmobile.
The minimum number of participants to book a group is 20 with a max of 60. Group swimming will be available from 11 a.m.-noon or 4-5:30 p.m. July 8. Rates start at $100 for a nonprofit group of up to 30 to swim for 1.5 hours; additional details are found in the web link above or by calling 304-933-AQUA (2782).
